Some weeks ago during Laura's 3 month regular diabetes visit at her doctor, we received not as such good news. There were symptons that Laura could have the "Coeliac disease" which means she's allergic for Gluten.
The week after we went to an academic hospital where they performed an endoscopy and did a biopsy by removing some tissue from here small bowel.
After one and a half week Laura's doctor called us on a Friday to confirm Laura had the Coeliac disease, so the following monday we went to the hospital and heard everything about it.
Fortunately it seemed that the disorder of her small bowel is not as bad as we already thought as Laura did not had any of the symptoms as described for this disease. From now on she's not allowed to eat any food which contains Gluten for a year. After one year she will be tested again to confirm if she is really allergic for gluten.
This will be a tough job to keep her on a Gluten free diet. A lot of products contains gluten like bread, cake, cookies, soup, sausages and a lot more. For the most of the products there are alternate products, but it is difficult to get and very expensive. But despite of these substitutes it will happen a lot that Laura will be disappointed during the moments the children in her class like to treat cakes for their bithday. That was one of the reasons that we were so happy with her insulinepump... to eat everything she likes and now we have to go a big step backwards. It's so unfair!
But we will do anything to make her life as normal as possible.
